HILARY HOUSTON ADAMS

PARTNER | ATLANTA

Hilary Adams is a member of the firm’s litigation section. She graduated from Duke Law School, where she received an academic merit scholarship, in 2007. In 2005, Hilary served an internship with the Criminal Division of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia where she assisted AUSAs in the trial of Zacarias Moussaoui, who pled guilty to conspiracy to hijack airplanes and crash them into the World Trade Center and the White House in connection with the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Hilary has represented clients in a wide range of complex, high exposure civil litigation matters in both federal and state courts. Hilary’s clients have included railroads, natural gas distribution companies, financial services institutions, chemical companies, companies within the oil and gas industry, restaurants, and international real estate developers. She has experience in the areas of commercial contract litigation, products liability, toxic tort, mass tort, mortgage banking, premises liability, and a broad variety of railroad-related litigation, including defending FELA claims and claims arising from grade crossing and train-on-train collisions. Hilary has particular experience with claims involving Positive Train Control (PTC), and together with Hall Bloch partner Daryl Clarida, she achieved one of the first federal trial court victories on the subject of whether the Federal Railroad Safety Act (FRSA) precludes certain PTC-related FELA claims.

Hilary is a member of the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel (NARTC) and the Georgia Bar Association. She is admitted to practice in Texas, Georgia, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and several United States District Courts, including the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. In her free time, Hilary enjoys adventure travel with her husband Jeff.
