JOHN B. "BURT" WILKERSON

Burt has a general practice with substantial experience in real estate, bankruptcy, receivership, and general business law.

In real estate, Burt represents buyers, sellers, lenders, and developers on a wide range of real estate matters, including drafting and negotiating loan documents on behalf of lenders and borrowers and drafting and negotiating loan workouts and restructurings on behalf of borrowers and lenders. Burt also served as counsel for a multi-family builder/developer handling numerous mediations and dealing with construction, insurance coverage, bonding, and corporate organizational matters. He also managed a multistate title company overseeing licensing and loan closings in Georgia, Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi.

In receiverships, Burt has served as a court-appointed receiver for Superior Courts in Bibb, Houston, Peach, Crawford, Henry, and Clayton Counties.

In bankruptcy, Burt has represented creditors in Chapter 11, Chapter 12, and Chapter 13 bankruptcy cases.

In business, Burt provides general business advice, prepares corporate documents, and collects past due accounts.

Burt strives to be as responsive as possible to his client’s needs, taking calls at all hours whenever a client needs assistance. When problems arise, he strives to come up with creative, innovative solutions to difficult issues.

Burt is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the Macon Bar Association, and is a member of the Bar in the United States District Courts in the Southern, Middle, and Northern Districts of Georgia.

Burt was appointed to serve on the Georgia Real Estate Commission and to serve as the Regional Director for the Department of Housing and Urban Development for Region V.

Burt grew up in Macon, Georgia graduating from Stratford Academy. Burt received his undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia graduating magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa in 1979 and earned his law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law, graduating in 1982.

Burt’s civic and professional involvement includes past and current membership in the Georgia Real Estate Closing Attorney’s Association, Board of Directors of Middle Georgia Regional Library, Macon Arts Alliance Board of Directors, member Middle Georgia Bulldog Club, Idle Hour Country Club Board of Directors, member and past president Macon Civic Club, Christ Episcopal Church Vestry, general counsel Bibb County Republican Party, Vice Chair Republican Party for the Eighth Congressional District and member of the Macon Association of Realtors.

In his spare time, Burt enjoys golf, reading, and following the Georgia Bulldogs.
